I have memories of being in the kitchen from a really young age. My mom and grandmother are amazing cooks & bakers. What sparked the idea of Buns Bakery and how did you know it was the right time to open up your own business? Back when I was lecturing I used to sell at markets and supply a few customers in my free time, when this started to expand I had to choose which job I was going to stick with. My gut told me it was time to take the risk and open up Buns Bakery, and I always listen to my gut 🙂 Where does your inspiration come from when deciding which delicious baked goods go on your weekly menu? I often refer to what fruits are in season, this helps dictate a lot of our menu. I also discuss ideas and trends with my Head Baker Nabeel, and we brainstorm throughout the week before. I am always researching and reading about food and baking – one never stops learning in this industry – so I often like to try something new for the Weekly Menu. What do you think makes Buns Bakery stand out amongst other bakeries? Consistency is key to getting customers to come back. We take pride in using quality ingredients and baking to order, which ensures our stock is fresh. We are also really focussed on flavour and not only making something beautiful, but something that really tastes good. What is your favourite thing to bake? This is a tricky one to answer, I love it all! What advice would you give to someone who is wanting to get into the field? Don’t give up! This is not an easy industry to be in, the hours are long and you are on your feet all day, but if you love food and have a passion for it, all those long days are worth it in the end. Try to continuously expand your knowledge and learn from those around you. What is 1 challenge and 1 fulfilment of being a business owner? 1 challenge: the reality is that you never really get time off – you need to be present and in control. 1 fulfilment: having the freedom to run my business/ kitchen how I want to. Which platforms do you use to market your business? Instagram and Facebook Would you say social media has helped your business with its growth? If so, how? Yes most certainly, its our main form of communication with our customers. Where can one find you?
